Who thinks we should make another video like this one from last year? Today, pupils used their work on Subject-Verb agreement and features of debates to create a debate for and against school uniform.
Once they had some ideas on paper, we debate them using our speaking and listening skills. We watched a video about how people felt during the Evacuation and hot seated pupils to pretend they were the person in the video.
Today, we pretended that we had been evacuated from the city. We all had characters to play and we had to discuss how we felt being evacuated and living with our host families.
Today, pupils in my class practised subject-verb agreement. They had to read a discussion text and find the mistakes (e.g. There is going...). They also played a game called quiz-quiz-trade to check their understanding.
Use this document to find out the answers to the homework. If you are incorrect, use a coloured pencil to correct your answer and find out why your answer was different. Today we were looking at how sometimes using a calculator is not always as useful. For example, 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 is 1 whole BUT if you complete this using decimals, it is 0.3+0.3+0.3 which is 0.9. This is called a rounding error. We used calculators to find patterns about this and used this information to create questions and checked them by playing quiz-quiz-trade.
This week, we had the luxury of going to an assembly all about Andalucía Day. We heard about some of the history, listened to some poems and heard a fantastic song sung by on of the boys in secondary. I hope you all enjoy your 'puente' and come back feeling refreshed and ready to learn. This week, pupils have been creating their own Science investigations. They planned what their variables were, how they would safely carry out the investigation and completed the investigation using various equipment.
For pancake day, we had the luxury of trying Ms Sabanowski´s pancakes and taking part in a pancake race! It was really fun and the pancakes were delicious!
Today, Year 5H and Year 6 worked together and explored a variety of circuits to see what would happen if they:
They also looked at a range of materials to see which objects conducted electricity. Have a go at homeSome pupils were asking me how they could try this type of activity at home. Below are some easy to assemble sets which I have used in the past:
Today, we went into the computer room and used the computers to send each other secret World War 2 messages to each other.
We went to a website and use the Caesar Cipher system to encrypt messages, then we posted them on this blog and other groups had to work out the answer. We are going to be making our own Morse Code circuits soon so in preparation for this, we are going to be learning about Electricity this week.
Today, we recapped what we already knew about Electricity and then we discussed some differences of opinion. For example, some pupils thought humans conducted electricity and others didn´t think they did. We then learnt about electricity taking the shortest route. Below are some pictures of us creating a human circuit and showing that electricity was able to pass through our bodies to light up the bulb. This week we have been learning about Anderson shelters. We looked at why they were made, what they were made from, who would use them, where would they be made, and how to make our own.
Today, we designed our own shelters in class and will use the designs to help us make our own mini shelters at home. Today during our literacy lesson, we have been recapping how to use a variety of adjectives to add more description to our writing and help the reader create a picture in their head.
We began by drawing the object Mr Henderson told us E.g. Chair, then we drew a second picture of the chair once Mr Henderson had included more adjectives. Then, we created a mind map of nouns and we had to expand them by adding adjectives to each one without repeating them. This week, my maths group have been making data and creating graphs. We begun by making a grouped data tally chart. Afterwards we made a frequency bar chart. Finally we converted the information into percentages and then displayed the information as a pie chart. To do that, we needed to convert the percentage into a decimal and then multiply by 360 to work out how many degrees each section was.
Today, we begun looking into the anti-Jewish laws put into place as Great Germany invaded Poland and other surrounding countries. Children had to sort the laws into chronological order and then discuss them as a class
Today, during our ICT time, we continued to learn about how people used to exchange secret messages. We used torches to send Morse Code messages to each other.
