This week, we had the luxury of going to an assembly all about Andalucía Day. We heard about some of the history, listened to some poems and heard a fantastic song sung by on of the boys in secondary.

I hope you all enjoy your 'puente' and come back feeling refreshed and ready to learn.

Today, Year 5H and Year 6 worked together and explored a variety of circuits to see what would happen if they:
  • added more bulbs
  • added another cell
  • changed the length of the wires
  • connected more than one appliance

They also looked at a range of materials to see which objects conducted electricity.

Have a go at home

Some pupils were asking me how they could try this type of activity at home. Below are some easy to assemble sets which I have used in the past:
Snap circuits - 100
Snap circuits - 300
Snap circuits - 500

We went to a website and use the Caesar Cipher system to encrypt messages, then we posted them on this blog and other groups had to work out the answer.

We are going to be making our own Morse Code circuits soon so in preparation for this, we are going to be learning about Electricity this week.

Today, we recapped what we already knew about Electricity and then we discussed some differences of opinion. For example, some pupils thought humans conducted electricity and others didn´t think they did. We then learnt about electricity taking the shortest route.

Below are some pictures of us creating a human circuit and showing that electricity was able to pass through our bodies to light up the bulb.

This week we have been learning about Anderson shelters. We looked at why they were made, what they were made from, who would use them, where would they be made, and how to make our own.

Today, we designed our own shelters in class and will use the designs to help us make our own mini shelters at home.
