Below is the website we used to research the size of Sun, Earth and Moon.

Well done Year 5 for your hard work this lesson. Please be careful of the following things:
- Capital letters - Punctuation - ´and´ / ´or´ questions - Use of spaces, capitalisation and amount of question marks If you would like to remind yourself of polygons, just visit the website below.
Today we used a torch, a basket ball and some paper to work out if the Earth was flat or round. We looked at the evidence and discussed how we know it was round. Finally, we looked at what a scrunched piece of paper could represent (e.g. mountains, craters)
Today, we had our weekly guided reading session. We worked in four groups and Mr Henderson and Miss Bowyer helped us. Our focus was on the structure of non-fiction texts.
Today, we went into the Library and changed our books. When we had finished, we completed some reading comprehension games. This week, all pupils have a non-fiction book and we are focusing on non-fiction texts in guided reading to help with their targets.
During Literacy, we looked at the different features used in our writing and played some games to help us with our targets. Some examples of games we played are:
We have been using some flip-it cards in our mental maths lessons. This week we used Angle flip-it cards and worked in groups to solve the questions.
After looking at when we use apostrophes in our writing, we designed and began making our own apostrophe game. Some people made a board game with cards, others chose a pairing type game.
This afternoon, we had to recreate a story we read earlier in the week. We changed parts and tried to link our literacy focus this week to the play.
During our topic lesson today, we looked at 'Forgiveness' and what this means. We thought of our own definition and compared it to the definition from the dictionary. Afterwards we thought about when we would forgive someone and how we can show we have forgiven someone. At the end of the lesson we compared views of forgiveness from Christians and ourselves.
Today, we created some shapes with coordinates on a grid and took our books into the Gym. Once inside, we got into groups and took it in turns to create our shapes by telling the class which coordinate to stand on.
Download this databse and practise searching for information using the filters. Comment on this blog with your questions for others to answer.
Some example questions are:
1) How many people in the census are male? 2) How many women worked? Today, we went into the computer room and we opened a spreadsheet database. We then searched the Victorian census using filters.
Why not practise your coordinates work here. Comment on your score and tell me what you found difficult. Today, we learned how to use the apostrophe to show an omission. We then practised changing sentences into contractions and from contractions. At the end of the lesson we played a game of 'Contraction Bingo!'
We went into the library to change our books and to enjoy reading. We relaxed on the cushions with our friends.
We discussed what we would do if we found money on the floor, then we used the orange stickers to vote which scenario we would choose. Most people in the class would have told their parents but some people would have taken the money for themselves and others would leave the money on the floor.
Afterwards, we talked about the Christian beliefs found in Luke, chapter 10: verse 27 and discussed what a Christian would do in the same situation and marked this with the green stickers. We have continued with our moving toys project and used our planning sheets to help us create our toys. We measured and sawed the frame to size, used a glue gun to stick it all together and designed the front of our toy.
We have designed and decorated some photo frames during our Art lesson so people can buy them during UNICEF day.
This afternoon, we began planning and designing our moving toys. We worked in groups of three and discussed what we wanted to include in our toy and then planned it onto a flow chart
Today, we were multiplying using TU and U to multiply. We used the partitioning method to help us.
This morning, we learnt how to use a root verb and write it in past, present and future tenses. We experimented using the simple, continuous and perfect versions of the verb.
Today, we looked at existing 'Moving Toys', drawn and labelled a diagram of one toy and investigated different cams. This will help us tomorrow when we design our own Moving Toy.
