Following this, we looked at semaphore messages send using coloured flags. We used the picture below to try to send messages to our partners in the playground.
Today, we pretended we were in the 1940´s during World War 2. We had to imagine we were in a battle field and needed to send a message to someone else on the other side of the field. We discussed different ways we could do this and realised we could not send a text message or use our smart phones to do it. Following this, we looked at semaphore messages send using coloured flags. We used the picture below to try to send messages to our partners in the playground.

Today, we have been looking at World War 2 newspaper articles and identifying the features used. Some examples are:
During our PE lesson today, we imagined we were back in 1940's and were training to be in the Army. We had a circuit of activities to complete and we recorded our scores. Each week we will see if we are fitter and strong enough for the army!
Today, we researched WW2 and looked for clues that would give us the answers to some of our questions. We then added this information to our mind map.
During our maths lesson today, we imagined we were in WW2 and had to work out how many rations we could by in a week. We had to use a variety of skills to work it out! Today, we used our maths skills to place important events from WW2 in order. Using the timeline helped us to begin to answer some of the questions we wanted to find out.
To begin our topic on WW2, we thought about all of the things we know, think we know and want to know about world war 2. Afterwards, we put all of our questions together and will refer to them as the topic continues.
I hope you have all had a lovely holiday, are well rested and ready to learn again! We return to school on Thursday to begin our new topic - World War 2. Well done to everyone in Year 5H for a superb show today. If you would like to see it again, click the play button below. Today we have welcomed Sara Donaire, from Sanlucar Radio Station at St George's British School of Seville. Our pupils have been “on air" live from the School doing a programme called “LA RADIO VA AL
COLE". The broadcast ended with Year 5 singing one of the songs they will sing in their Christmas concert - 'Let it Snow' (A remake of the popular song Let it Go, written by Mr Henderson). We have all enjoyed Sara’s visit and the broadcast. You can listen to the program on: www.solucarradio.com, on today's date. We would like to congratulate the staff and pupils involved in this programme and would also like to thank Sanlucar la Mayor town hall, Solucar Radio Station and especially Sara Donaire for this amazing opportunity. This week, we have begun our fiction topic on The Tunnel. We have analysed the two main characters and created our own two characters. Today, we played a game called ´park bench´ to help us learn more about our characters and then made a tunnel to go through. Whilst going through the tunnel, we thought of adjectives to describe how we felt.
Today, we began making our Moving Toys. We watched Mr Henderson show us how to use a saw carefully and then we measured our wood and cut it out.
This week, my maths group have been focusing on the different types of graphs and when we would use each type of graph. Look at the comparative graphs we have made in the ICT room this week!
HOMEWORK: You must add a comment to this post and create a question for other people to answer about a graph (make sure you explain which one is yours!). You must then reply to someone else´s question to show you can ask and answer questions about graphs. This week we have begun our new topic on Moving Toys. We have been learning the names of each part and what each part does.
We planned, tested and evaluated an experiment to see what were the best conditions for seed germination. We found out that the seeds in the classroom and in the cupboard germinated the best, the seeds on the window ledge germinated but burnt with the heat and the seeds in the fridge did not germinate because of the temperature.
Today, we began coding a new game in year 5. If you would like to have a go at home, click on the button below.
Today, we went on a seed hunt to find as many variety of seeds as we could in the playground. We managed to find several varieties. We then researched the various methods of seed dispersal. If you want to have another look at the different ways seeds disperse, click on the button below.
To celebrate Halloween, we all dressed up in scary costumes and completed a variety of activities in our houses. We all had lots of fun!
This week, pupils have been learning about deforestation and how they can help. They created information leaflets and then shared them with other people in the class. They are now on display in the corridors.
Today, year 5 went on a school trip to the park. They used their map skills to find their way around and visited as many places as they could. |
